Boydston Chemical Innovations (BCI) produces odorless, easily processable oligomers and polymers of dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) and several functionalized norbornenes for the production of high-performance thermosets, fiber-reinforced composites, and photoresins. BCI specializes in the synthesis of Metal-Free Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization (MF-ROMP) products, using photoredox chemistry and organic initiators. BCI produces MF-ROMP materials at a kilogram scale. Our unique ROMP method gives linear oligomers and polymers of DCPD with targeted molecular weights, which can be processed either as thermoplastics or thermosets for a number of applications. The metal-free nature of our products opens up applications that previously could not be considered, e.g. medical implants and electronics. In addition, linear oligomeric DCPD produced by MF-ROMP has been used as an additive in high-performance plastics and can increase impact resistance, along with thermal and chemical stability.
